Nostalgia

I miss the white vanilla talc
chalked on your baby skins
your cheeky chats and rubber caps;
bath bubbles on your chins;

the very hungry caterpillar
which invaded every evening
crawling over other tales
you found a tad less pleasing

and all the nights I wrapped you tight
rocking you to slumber
and soon as down, youd look around
and smiled at me in wonder

then took to weep which soon increased
into a wailing tempo
when I would chance upon a creak
which called for your crescendo;

the wrap of arms around my neck
the stubborn super-glue
which stuck upon my office dress
the hem which you'd pursue

and every single disturbed night
youd tiptoe to my bed
sleepily and weepily
in dreamike story dread;

the threading of a daisy chain
and a puff of magic dust
from a dandelion fairytale
in the innocence of trust;

the days of muddy rugby boots
and footprints through the house
the whirring of the Hotpoint
terminating every louse

the missing piece of puzzle
as you hurried to an end
and every little trouble
that I could always mend

I do know, cos I've made it a condition of my will lol. They get nothing unless they can quote a dozen of my poems a year after my funeral Smile

Nostalgia indeed. They'll miss you when you've gone and realise the legacy you've left them
