It's Raining death in Syria, And flooding 'cross the sand
Rivers wash out from the towns, Draining  from the land
A hail of death by  guns and bombs, Of terror by all sides.
Of anger hatred bigotry ,And devilment besides
Terrorists, xenophobes, intolerance and fear
Driving populations, from the homes they once held dear.
Streams of people, desperation, running from the strife
Breaking down the borders, people fleeing for their life.

And we sit down in safety, and we see it on TV
"Isn't it a tragedy, I'm glad it isn't me,"
Wring our hands and shake our heads, "don't know what to do"
"But anyway, it's over there, they're not like me and you."

The river comes to Turkey, with the wreckage of their lives.
The tide of human suffering, so painfully arrives.
A thousand here, a thousand there, and hundreds dead at sea.
What a life of misery, to be a refugee.
Old and young and babes in arms, families in flight
Driven from beloved homeland, by the powers of night.
Mothers crying, babies dying, fathers bowed with tears
Profit made by people traffic, modern Buccaneers

And we sit down in safety, and we see it on TV
"Isn't it a tragedy, I'm glad it isn't me,"
Wring our hands and shake our heads, "don't know what to do"
"But anyway, it's over there, they're not like me and you."

Rivulets of people, make their way across to Greece.
Desperation drives them, in a frantic search for peace.
Orphan children's tearful pleading, lonely and afraid.
Nightmare visions, dying parents, horrors never fade.
Families seeking, members lost, a haunting tragedy
In the lands, they prayed would save them, give them sanctuary.
But no, they're moved from place to place, and flow towards the street.
To walk their way to Northern Europe, on war weary feet.

And we sit down in safety, and we see it on TV
"Isn't it a tragedy, I'm glad it isn't me,"
Wring our hands and shake our heads, "don't know what to do"
"But anyway, it's over there, they're not like me and you."

Across the continent on foot, the exodus arrives.
And shown on weary faces is the truth that hope survives.
In Germany, in Austria, in Holland and in France.
The refugees start pouring in, just praying for a chance
To get away from war and hate, from bullets and from fear.
To build their lives back up again, make ploughshares from the spear.
Britain stands alone, in that the water stems the flood.
We sit this side the channel, wash our hands of any blood.

And we sit down in safety, and we see it on TV
"Isn't it a tragedy, I'm glad it isn't me,"
Wring our hands and shake our heads, "it really  is a sin".
"Make sure our borders locked up tight, don't let the bastards in"

Hi Indie
We do seem to be a bit hypocritical in Britain.
Bless you
